Hi, I'm Lori.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
I have worked in the field of mental health and substance use for over 43 years. After “retiring” in 2024, I really missed working and supporting others in addressing concerns in their lives, which led me to return to providing therapy.
For the first 30 years of my career, I provided counseling and in-home services to children and their families, as well as working at the Mental Health Institute for 18 of these years. I spent over 20 of these years overseeing programs, while always continuing to provide services to individuals, couples, and groups. After completing my graduate degree through Mount Mercy University in 2012, I provided individual and couples counseling for 3 years at a local non-profit agency in Cedar Rapids.
In 2015, I became the Clinical Director of an outpatient substance use program, where I
worked until I retired in 2024. I did provide individual and group counseling, addressing
issues of both substance use and mental health.
At this time, I will be only be offering telehealth services.
I believe that everyone has the answers to problems in their lives but often need guidance to uncover them.
I see the uniqueness in everyone and their particular goals for therapy. I know that “one size fits all” approach to therapy does not work and instead tailor therapy to individual needs and goals. Through many of my own personal experiences, I have found that practicing mindfulness and self-compassion have been essential for my own growth. I am open to sharing experiences, but only if doing so is beneficial to your journey.
You will find that I am not judgmental and I am accepting of others. I identify as she/her and am supportive of the LGBTQ community. I am here to offer you the support you need, in making positive changes in your life.
Remember be kind to yourself.
